deaths in israel: A Time to Mourn, Not a time to kill

Farmington Hills, MI, July 3, 2014 – The Society for Humanistic Judaism is both horrified and greatly saddened by the death of Muhammad Hussein Abu Khdeir, a young Palestinian boy, in apparent retaliation for the deaths of three Israeli teens, Eyal Yifrach, Naftali Fraenkel, Gilad Sa’ar. The SHJ offers its condolences to the families and friends of all four teens.

Humanistic Judaism affirms that human dignity is one of life’s highest values. These senseless murders cannot and will not pave the path to peace for which we all hunger. We call upon Israelis and Palestinians to turn to the justice system to punish these illegal acts. We call upon all people to heed the voices of those among both Israelis and Palestinians who seek an end to all hostility. We join hands with all those in the world who work to establish peace and uphold dignity for all humankind.
