Society For Humanistic Judaism Speaks Up For Free Speech
As Humanistic Jews, we wholeheartedly support the fundamental rights guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms: the rights to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion, as well as the right to peaceably express opinions, even unpopular opinions, on a wide range of issues, whether by speaking or refraining from speaking. This includes, for example, the right to decline to participate in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Society for Humanistic Judaism supports the broad exercise of the right of free speech, free of pressure or coercion, direct or indirect, from any public body.
